OUR

STORY

Behind the name:

Listening to one of my favourite songs, 'Daydream Believer' by The Monkeys, I wondered what a Daydream Believer was. The song was written by John Stewart who gifted it to the band to perform. It wasn't until later that Stewart revealed that he wrote the song as part of a trilogy. The final of the trilogy, expressing what suburban life is like. The concept is explained that “Married couples start out in an idealistic haze, but after a few years it wears off, and each sees the other as they really are. This is when Genuine Love is proven" - Stewart. As a company aspired to create genuine change in the world, beginning with and understanding an underlining genuine love and passion is our number 1 goal.

Growing up we were told to 'get your head out of the clouds', to 'stop daydreaming'. Whereas now children are told to 'stop texting' and mainly to 'get off your phone!'.

Technology interrupts genuine attributes such as social construction of relationships, as well as innovative potential. It is impossible to innovate when constantly distracted. Our goal is to enable individuals to enhance their social self; to allow themselves to daydream. We are living in a world where innovation and adaptation is a necessity, it seems that Daydreaming may be our future.

The idea was first hatched one afternoon when my girlfriend was sleeping before her night shift at the hospital. I noticed that her phone was wedged under her pillow, and some part of me was thrown off by it being under her head as she slept. I picked the phone up and placed it on the dresser farther away. I immediately started my research to determine if there were legitimate effects that came from cellphones and the radiation they emit. Knowing only the basic knowledge that cellphones have Cellular, Wireless and Bluetooth waves, I figured that they MUST have an effect on the human body due to the fact that it is not natural at all. As I searched for weeks, I found endless articles stating information regarding health issues that have arisen from cellular radiation. This is where my passion ignited to make a change.

When looking into health effects, I became more and more conscious of my cellphone being close to me.  From there I began to feel better with my phone not always being in my hand or in my pocket; the freedom of not always checking it for alerts. This is where the social aspect of the RR came from. After releasing multiple surveys, I was able to conclude that my sample study agreed with the concept of them over using their phones and wishing they didn't have too.

So, how do you use your phone less but stay connected with the world? The RR is a modern day pager. If something comes up in your life (An Alert), you receive it and can determine if it is urgent and important enough to go to your cellphone.  This is the concept of the RR, allowing yourself to Daydream and be connected at the same time.
